‘Customer Trust Is Our Greatest Strength’: Chairman Suryakant Suvarna
MUMBAI: Marking three decades of successful service built on customer trust and continuous banking services, the 30th anniversary of the Kandivali West Branch of Bharat Co-operative Bank Limited was celebrated with devotion and grandeur on September 22.
The special programme was organised at the branch premises in Nand Dham Building on M.G. Cross Road, Kandivali West, and commenced at 9 a.m. with a Ganahoma. The religious rituals were performed under the priesthood of Vinay Bhat and Madhav Bhat. Branch Deputy Head Shakuntala Kulai and Jayant Kulai performed the yajamanike.
Thereafter, Suryakant Suvarna, Chairman of the Bank, inaugurated the 30th anniversary celebrations of the branch by lighting the traditional lamp.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “Customer satisfaction is the fundamental and foremost priority of our bank. Whether it is CBS or any other technology, our primary objective must always be customer service. When customers come to the bank, whether their work is completed or not, they should leave satisfied.”

He said there are two ways of working—one is to come every day, complete the work and go home, while the other is to work with a definite goal. “Those who work without a goal will not reach anywhere. Our Kandivali branch should have a benchmark target of at least Rs. 500 crore. From the staff engaged in cleanliness to every other employee, everyone should have the Rs. 500 crore branch target in mind. When we work with a goal-oriented approach, the work becomes easier. Do not merely run behind the target to achieve it; run behind the path that will help you reach the target,” he said.
“Never forget that customer satisfaction is our core business. Only after that come CBS, paperwork or RBI regulations. One satisfied customer will automatically bring 10 more new customers. This is how Bharat Bank has grown from 5 branches to 102 branches. Our journey from Rs. 200 crore to Rs. 20,000 crore has been based on customer satisfaction,” Suryakant Suvarna said.
He further advised the staff, “Even if customers have an NPA or speak harshly with you, your goal should be to speak to them politely and satisfy them. This should be your primary objective as an employee and as a branch manager. If you work in this manner, both the branch and the bank will grow. The strength of our bank is the strength of our customers. Congratulations to all of you. Work with hard work and intelligence.”

Prominent entrepreneur Dr. P. V. Shetty of Payyade Hotels and Sports Club Group cut the anniversary cake and said, “Perhaps you may have been here for two or three years, but we have been availing banking services at this branch for the past 30 years. Your mentor Jaya Suvarna was a family friend of ours, and his son is also like a family friend to us. I personally know most of the members of the administration here. We have received excellent service for the past 30 years. I thank all of you.”
On the occasion, the bank’s prestigious customers Jayaram Poojary and V. Narayana Poojary extended their greetings on the branch completing 30 years of service. Recalling the cordial bond and trust shared with customers, they wished the branch continued success in the years ahead.
The bank’s General Manager Janardhan Poojary recalled the early days of the Kandivali branch and spoke about the background of its establishment, its distinctive journey over three decades and the close relationship it has developed with its customers.
